RVUCOM-Southern Utah Associations, Clubs & Organizations

Welcome to the OB/GYN Club!

The RVUCOM-SU OB/GYN Club was created for RVUCOM-SU students who are interested in becoming OB/GYNs, and who share a passion for women's health. This year, we will strive to educate our fellow students about all aspects of the OB/GYN profession. We plan on hosting events targeted toward women's health education while collaborating with other ACO's on our campus. Proudly, the OB/GYN Club is a member of the National Student Society of American College of Osteopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology (NSS-ACOOG).

Past Events Hosted by OB/GYN Club

Days for Girls
The OB/GYN Club co-sponsored the Days for Girls event along with the WIM and MSAUP clubs and made menstrual kits for girls in need in other countries.

VPROF 2019
Visiting Professor program sponsored by ACOOG, Michael J. Geria, DO, MS, FACOOG (Dist.), Vice President of the ACOOG

SimMom Session
The OB/GYN Club and SA-ACOFP co-sponsored a SimMom C-section simulation. The session began with an introduction to the C-section procedure (its indications, the procedural steps, etc.), which was given by three students. Next, several additional volunteer students were able to scrub in and played the role of first assistant, second assistant, circulator, scrub tech., and student observer. Dr. Carter, Director of the Simulation program for RVUCOM, led the actual caesarian section, which ended in the birth of a healthy, plastic (and quite rigid) baby girl.

SimMom Postpartum Hemorrhage & Neonatal Resuscitation Simulation
January 29 Dr. Susan Carter hosted a Postpartum Hemorrhage and Neonatal Resuscitation event in the simulation lab. Students were able to present on the topic and get involved in the simulation by playing the roles of physicians, nurses, and OR technicians. There were 40 students in attendance. Co-sponsored with the SAACOFP and SOSA Clubs.

Doctors Volunteer Clinic Prep
Preparing for a Community Service Event: We started our meeting by packing gift baggies for our Doctor’s Volunteer Clinic Presentation. Next, we brought up the slide show presentation from last year to critique it as a group and assign sections of it to different people who were interested in being a part of this great community opportunity. We ended the meeting by training the new presenters on previous slides and topics.

Doctors Volunteer Clinic Women’s Health Course
The OB/GYN Club hosted a women’s health course at the local volunteer clinic (Doctor’s Volunteer Clinic). Topics discussed included: cervical cancer and the HPV vaccine, breast cancer, STDs, birth control options, and ended with pregnancy and post-partum depression. Attendance was up from our last presentation and all of the presenting students did a fantastic job and were very knowledgeable on their topic of choice.

Spring Community Health Fair
The OB/GYN Club had an HPV educational booth at the RVUCOM Spring Health Fair. We gave out candy and plastic jumping frogs and educated parents on the benefits and FAQs regarding the vaccine.
