Welcome to SUCA!

"Join the great physician in his never-ending task of lifting the load from those who are burdened and relieving the pain of those who are distraught" - Jeffrey R. Holland "Behold The Lamb of God"

The Southern Utah Collegium Aesculapium (SUCA) is a club for RVU students of all faiths with the purpose of assisting members in balancing professional, scientific, personal, and spiritual aspects of their life. SUCA promotes the practice of nurturing the connection of spirit to the academic rigors of mind through weekly lunch meetings where we are led in discussion on spiritual topics that are generally based on Latter-day Saint views. We seek to enhance members’ understanding of the relationship between religious faiths and the medical profession. Through uplifting events and volunteer activities SUCA fosters a wellness in the mind, body, and spirit of its members.

SUCA was inspired by Collegium Aesculapium which is an organization for Latter-day Saint medical professionals. We are not directly affiliated with this organization at this time but can assist interested individuals in obtaining a student membership.

We have a partnership with the Dixie State Institute for Continued Learning. Any student interested in receiving credit from the institute for attending weekly discussions should reach out to club leadership.

Introducing Dr. Tyler Warner

We are pleased to announce that we will be hearing from Dr. Tyler Warner weekly here on campus in Auditorium 2. Dr. Warner is an Internal Medicine doctor at St. George Hospital. Or in his words, he is an "eternal" medicine doctor. He did his residency at River Valley, Ohio. He is an avid church history enthusiast and enjoys making guitars in his free time.

Club Meetings and Events

  • SUCA meets regularly on Thursdays at 12pm during the semester. This Fall those meetings will occur in person on campus. Weekly meetings will generally include a prayer, brief discussion of any club business, and a discussion on a spiritual topic with relation to medicine as facilitated by Dr. Warner. Club elections will typically occur during these meetings per announcement on Teams.

  • Each semester the club will hold at least 2 events, at least 1 of which will be a service opportunity. At this time we are still determining what those events will be. Updates on upcoming events will be announced on the Teams page as scheduled. Common past events have included:

    • Service helping with the Fall Festival

    • A group viewing of the Latter-Day Saint Women's Conference

    • Guest speakers on topics relating to Faith and Medicine

    • Service helping with Walk with Autisim
